This is a brief synopsis of the two original Neuroliminal Training Experiments conducted by Dr Bate during 2004 and 2005. These two experiments were only 4 weeks in duration, and this proved too short for ADD/ADHD and some other persons. At the time of these tests, Dr Bate was not aware of just how strong was the Hawthorne Effect, and this affected the outcomes. In addition, three "failures" (with previous EEG Biofeedback training) were included. Since Neuroliminal does exactly the same thing as Neurofeedback (AKA EEG Biofeedback) - namely raising the SMR brain wave in these two tests, those similar failures are even more proof that Neuroliminal and Neurofeedback are equal in action.
The initial volunteer test was done to prove two theories:
1. The SMR brain wave can be increased in strength using simple subliminal messaging with sleep therapy.
2. Raising the SMR brain wave "somehow" lowers or eliminates the affect of allergens on the brain.
Of the original 27 volunteers (with additional family members), data comments were received on 22 separate persons (including the three below "failures" for the first experiment from April 15 to May 15th.) However, much of this data is too short to be scientifically significant, although results are similar to those that would be found for an equivalent number of EEG biofeedback trainees.
Below is a brief summary of both experiments and reports. The reader can judge just how effective Neuroliminal training was in each case even in such short duration in most cases. Remember that most EEG BF "experts" recommend a minimum of 60 sessions for ADD/ADHD, and up to 200 sessions for more serious such as autism, epilepsy, depression, etc.
C + Daughter - both ADD/ADHD with allergy, daughter OCD, anxiety. Reported only for 18 days. C gradually improved for most of period, then stopped with daughter crisis. Daughter also seemed to improve, but reached crisis with school test end of school.
D - (adult female) - Insomnia, allergies, night urination, depression (thought caused by gluten). Reported for 31 days. Very good improvement despite diagnosis of breast cancer during this time. Sleep problem solved, and allergies lessened considerably. Clearer mind. Depression almost gone even with breast cancer diagnosis. (follow-up after 60 days showed depression, allergy, night urination all clear in spite of cancer diagnosis)
X - Spanish speaking 16 yo male - some English - ADHD. Hawthorne effect after a few days, then after few more, steady gradual improvement for 3 weeks of reporting, and mother reported on another post that he was much improved.
J - (adult male) - severe depression - drug side effects of long duration - Severe Hawthorne effect after 3 days of good improvement. Discontinuing, some improvement, then bad Hawthorne again, discontinued. 13 days reporting.
M - (adult male) - ADD, allergies - Improved gradually over 14 days of reporting. Less allergy effects, but bad sneezing around 3rd day (possible Hawthorne effect?) Improved after that.
L - (female child) - Allergy, ADD/ADHD - both improved over 39 total days of reporting. Very similar reports to EEG BF improvement. Ongoing.
Ma - (adult female) - ADD, sleep disorder, severe allergy. Probable Hawthorne effect from 3rd to 5th day. Gradual improvement from this point on - ongoing continuation. Chronic hives and sleep disorder both almost completely gone, and ADD is very much improved with much clearer mind. Outdoor and indoor allergies are much less or absent.
MJ - (teenage male) - ADD/ADHD, sleep problems. Sleep problems solved, no noticeable ADD/ADHD differences. Diagnosed with bladder cancer at about 3rd week.
R - Adult hearing impaired male - sleep apnea, depression. After 30 days reporting, sleeps much better, mind seems much "mellower". (Able to hear enough evidently to use this mode.)Br - (Teenage Male) - Possible Ausberger autism/ADD - Hawthorne effect from 6th to 9th day. At 24th session, therapist saw significant improvement, but discontinued reporting after 30 sessions.
RS - (Male child) - high functioning autism/ADD, sleep problems - 28 days of reporting - sleeps better, reading improved, gradual improvement very similar to EEG BF learning.
H - (6yo Male) - Mild autism, allergies, on specific diet for sensitivities - no Hawthorne noticed, definite language improvement over 23 days of reporting.
De - (Adult female) - allergic, depression, fatigue, ADHD. Some improvement in all problems over 30 days of reports. (Also using EEG BF unit at the same time for both HEG and EEG). No definite sign of improvement of one over the other mode.)
Son of De - (8yo Male) neurofibromatosis, heavy metal toxicity, speech problems, dyslexia, ADHD. Also doing both HEG and EEG BF. Slow gradual improvement .
Daughter of De - (12 yo Female) - ADD/ADHD, bipolar. Also using HEG and EEG BF. Slow improvement. Reading improved.
FAILURES IN FIRST EXPERIMENTNa - (TeenMale) - crack addict baby - ADHD/Autism. Failure using EEG BF previously. No significant improvement with Neuroliminal at all.
J - (Young Male) - Also failure with well over 60 sessions of EEG BF. No noticeable improvement with Neuroliminal..
WR - (9yo male) - Fetal Alcohol Syndrome/ADD, bipolar, attachment issues, on Concerta and Geodon. Probable Hawthorne effect for few days, no noticeable improvement after 24 reported days.
(Note the two above that had previously undergone over 60 sessions with EEG biofeedback training ALSO without success.Ch - (mother) depression : irritable, no enjoyment of life, snapping at the kids, really tired all the time. Son - (10yo) -ADHD, very emotional, cries very easily, very unhappy sometimes, but doesn't know why. Reported for 45 days. Depression virtually gone, sleep problems better, Son getting much better school grades, happier overall, less crying.
MG - 6yoMale) - Huge improvement in ADHD noted in two to three weeks at summer camp. Almost thrown out at start of camp up to invited back for next session. Played babbling brook every night.
RH - ADHD, sleep problems, allergies, depression, fatigue. (Reported for 60 days). Overall a very good success story with great improvement comparable to EEG biofeedback in all areas. Her testimonial which was posted on the Orthomolecular board follows: "Listen to Dr. Phil Bate and use his subliminal, it works. It's so easy. I've been using it for several weeks now and can count on sleeping every night when for years it was 2 to 3 1/2 only broken sleep. With the subliminal sleep is 6 1/2 to 7 or more, sometimes it is broken but I can live with it. One night actually slept 8 hours. I had the "Hawthorne" effect about a week into it, lasting 3 days, then started sleeping again. I have a host of problems the subliminal is helping, including ADHD. It feels great to be calm instead of tired and stressed."
SH - (Mother) - Sleeping problems - 12yo- Son ADHD. Sleep problems solved for mother, son had EEG biofeedback along with SM, and improved greatly in school and otherwise socially. Mother's father stopped snoring for first time in years.
JG - Mother - Anxiety, Son anger issues (ADHD). Mother improved considerably while listening to audio. Son also improved, although not as dramatically. Reported for almost 60 days
ME - Mother - son Ca age 10.5, adhd, asthma, allergies. - son Co - age 9, adhd, asthma, allergies, sensory integration disorder. Reported for 60+ days. For both sons, some improvement in both allergy and ADD/ADHD symptoms. Partial success only reported by mother.
EP - Male 17yo - Reported for only 2 weeks. Seems better organized and motivated to do work.
T - Asian male - Allergies, depression, sleep problems. Reported for a month. allergies improved, sleep problems initially improved, then stopped. No comments on depression.
1. Neuroliminal training is comparable to EEG BF (AKA neurofeedback), and is certainly cheap enough to afford low and mid-income families at least something to try as an initial alternative to Ritalin and other dangerous drugs. While some might claim that it has not yet proved completely as effective as EEG biofeedback (AKA neurofeedback) training, it has shown definite anecdotal evidence that it can be a more than adequate "cheap" substitute for either home or clinical training.
2. For some undetermined reason, Neuroliminal training seems to take at least as many nights of use as EEG BF half hour sessions do. This is an area that requires more study and comparison.
3. Allergies and Sensitivities can definitely be alleviated by lowering SMR. This was theorized by Dr Bate in September 2000, and was also noticed by him in several earlier anecdotal reports from clients. This factor should be investigated further, particularly with respect to anaphylactic patients. This is a study that needs to be done to save lives.
4. There is a question shown clearly here in the "failures" of the first experiment. Since EEG BF and Neuroliminal training did not show any improvement, is this an organic brain problem, possibly blood flow in one portion of the brain. If not, what is causing this difficulty. Could it be that these need upwards of 200 sessions? This is another area needing further study.
5. If this system can be utilized instead of EEG BF, then it might well lower recidivism in prisons by playing nights. In the study by Dr Von Hilsheimer and Dr Quirk, the recidivism rate fell to 15% in the Ontario prison system when EEG BF was utilized with volunteers. This Neuroliminal training system makes it simple to repeat this experiment, or something similar without much cost.
6. It is extremely difficult to get volunteers to send in even weekly comments on progress for experiments such as this. Out of seven "poor" persons (as evidenced only by an email stating poverty), who were given free Neuroliminal training access, only one actually sent in reports. Of the ones who did pay $20, most did not follow up with more than one or two reports. Most of the above reports are for partial reports both for the first (30 day) experiment and the 2nd (60 days). Working with ADD/ADHD people isn't easy as most of us know, and having them report via email is not simple.
This is a synopsis of the testing of the ADHD Neuroliminal Training conducted over 2 months (or more) by volunteers during the winter and spring of 2005-06. It was the first test that both raised the SMR brain wave, AND lowered the Theta wave. NASA experiments showed that this increased concentration and "attention".
Of the 40 plus volunteers that started the program, 23 finished a minimum of 4 weeks successfully. (With less than 4 weeks, even if successful with symptoms, we did not include in this group.) The majority of the persons who were depressed or insomniac (see figures for Depression or Sleep for improvements) did improve with good results for most. All ADHD subjects (except one who quit before finishing) also improved in several areas (symptoms), particularly in School/Work, concentration, and impulsivity. Two high functioning autism cases improved considerably (and are continuing to use the Neuroliminal at last report). We were also informed that Bedwetting (which was not reported on this form) improved in all cases except one.
On the actual data sheets, the first 6 sets of data show improvement as increasing numbers. The next four (shown in red) show improvement in decreasing numbers. As can be plainly seen, every person showed some improvement, and if you read the "comments" for the last week or so of the test (shown on the Testimonials Page , you can see the obvious enthusiasm and gratitude of the volunteers.
The latest (finished) test was conducted from August thru January, 2007. It was very successful. A total of eight weeks was reported by 9 autism cases, and 2 epilepsy cases. 8 weeks is a very short time for autism training, but as can be easily seen from the comments and the data sheets, all improved well within the expected parameters except one, and even he showed slight improvement. This complete data sheet may be downloaded and viewed at Autism Test (This requires the MS Excel program to open and read.)
This latest test was also very successful, and is comparable to typical results obtained with EEG biofeedback (Neurofeedback).
